Coconut Oil Skin Benefits
By Laura Ng
Other than healing your health internally such as lowering your blood pressure, curing constipation, improving digestion, strengthening your kidney and liver, enhancing your immune system, burning more unwanted body fat and fighting various killer diseases including AIDS, coconut oil can also benefit you externally, as a skin care product.
Skin Benefit 1 — Smoothening Your Dry Flaky Skin
If you got dry flaky skin on your palm, once it cracks a few mm deep and blood oozes out, you would cry for mercy, especially when it comes along with an itch.
My friend got it for 3 - 4 years and after learning about coconut oil's healing benefits, he rubs the oil on his palm every night before he sleeps. In only 3 days, the itch has gone and the crack closes up. Then in about 7 days, his normal fleshy palm returns with a smooth glow on the skin.
Coconut oil also benefits those with more serious skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, Candida and dermatitis. Try it, and you'll believe its healing power on skin.
Skin Benefit 2 — Healing Your Cracked Heels
As effective as on dry flaky skin, you need not waste money on those commercial water-based / chemical-laden cream specially developed to fight cracked heels.
Just apply and rub coconut oil on the affected area until it absorbs into the skin, and your heels should heal in 7 days or less. Best part is, it's all natural and you get all fat-soluble nutrients and antioxidants absorbed into your body via your skin just like that.
Skin Benefit 3 — Clearing Your Acnes
Apply only a light coating of virgin coconut oil and massage it on the affected area every night after cleaning your face and then leave it overnight till next morning. But do take note, some people may get more breakouts (when using coconut oil for acne treatment) within a week and last for a few weeks before they dry up and give you an almost flawless complexion.
Bear in mind not to use any other types of coconut oil (some refined coconut oils may clog your pores) except virgin coconut oil for your skin care benefits (fractionated coconut oil is good for skin too).
Skin Benefit 4 — Making You Look Younger
You don't need the extravagant SK-II or any other super expensive skin care products just to combat wrinkle and look youthful. Coconut oil works just as well. Here's how to reduce your wrinkle on the face:
- Wash your face and dry it.
- Put a dab of coconut oil (to avoid getting greasy) and then rub your hands together until the oil spread out evenly on your hands.
- Massage your face with your oil-coated hands to help speed up the absorption of oil into your skin.
For best result, do it morning right after you wash your face and at night before bedtime. For better than best outcome, eat 1 - 3 tablespoons a day and you'll see a naturally smooth, shiny complexion over time.
Tip: If you eat 3 tablespoons a day, take one in morning, one in afternoon and one at night.
Skin Benefit 5 — Moisturizing Your Lips
In dry climate, your lips can crack easily. Prepare a small handy bottle of coconut oil with you. Just dip your finger into the oil and then smear it on your lips just like a lady applying lipstick. The moisturizing effect lasts as long as a quality lip balm. Best, you can eat it along with food without fearing ingesting "don't know what" chemical as in the case of using commercial lip balm.
In fact, you'll achieve better skin benefits with regular coconut oil consumption, rather than solely using it topically.
